AKM Shahidul Haque is a Bangladesh police officer and the former Inspector General of Police.[1][2] He was born in Shariatpur district. He joined Bangladesh Police in 1986 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. In his career Mr. Hoque held many important commanding positions, which include Police Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DIG Chittagong Range, DIG Rajshahi Range, DIG (Finance and Development), Police Headquarters, SP Sirajganj, Chittagong, Moulvibazar and Chandpur. Before promoted to IGP he was Additional IGP (Administration and Operations) at the status of Secretary of Bangladesh Police.

Mr Hoque was a dynamic and people oriented police officer. He used to give patience hearing to the visitors and help-seekers with patience and provide legal help to them. He is the architect of community policing in Bangladesh. He made efforts to reduce the gap between police and public. Through community policing he tried to build up a bridge between police and public in order to accommodate the advice and suggestions of the members of communities to solve local problems and launch awareness building campaign against crime and social problems. He developed a strategic policy of community policing to work in the field by police and community. 

Mr Hoque played a courageous role to suppress the terrorist activities of BNP- Jamat during January 2015 t0 March 2015. He had contribution to unearthing the networks of militants and carrying out series of operations against the neo-JMB and other militant organisations. Thus the militants' activities could be controlled remarkably which drew the attention and appreciation at home and abroad. As IGP he brought many reforms in police administration and training to enhance the professional knowledge of officers and forces. The welfare and development oriented activities are also remarkable.

Mr Hoque finds pleasure and interest in social and humanitarian activities. He established a Foundation-" Mazid Jarina Foundation" after the name of his parents. He founded a school and college named Mazid Jarina Foundation School and College in his village home Naro Kalikata, Upazela Naria, Dist.- Shariatpur. The school and college drew attention of the people by their excellent academic results in all public examinations and extra curriculum activities like debate (both Bangla and English), game and cultural activities, parade and display, etc.

He is the author of different books like- 1. Police and Community with Concept of Community Policing, 2. Community Policing Ki Ebong Keno 3. Somaje Police Ebong Community Policing 4. Bangladesh Police Sarrgrontho 5. Community Policing: Concept, Aims and Objectives and 6. Bangladesh Police Hand Book etc.[3]
