All of Durham's previous seasons have also been at the second level, in the now-defunct FA WSL 2, the change this year was brought about by a restructuring of women's football by The Football Association. The Wildcats are also competing in two cup competitions: the FA Women's Cup and the FA WSL Cup.

Competitions

Pre-Season Friendlies

Durham arranged six friendly matches in preparation for the 2018–19 season, including a mini-tour of Scotland where they faced Spartans and Rangers. Two home matches were played against Newcastle United and Sheffield United at the Wildcats' training base at Durham University and they also faced Liverpool of the FA Women's Super League on neutral territory in Penrith.[12] A game was also scheduled against FA Women's National League side Huddersfield Town, but a behind-closed-doors friendly against undisclosed opposition was arranged to replace it after the Yorkshire club cancelled.[13]
