  • 26 February - An annular solar eclipse took place before and after 16:30 and occurred in the southeast of the country including a small part of Casamance, it showed up to 5% obscuration of the sun[1]
  • 30 July - The 2017 parliamentary election takes place, which re-elects Mohammed Dionne for Senegal.[2]
  • 7 August - A lunar eclipse took place after sunset at around 19:00, it showed the penumbral portion in the archipelago and finished more than an hour after sunset,[3] most of the country had clear skies and the eclipse was visible, clouds and the low pressure front were southwest near the vicinity of the coast and were unaffected the whole time
  • 21 August - A total solar eclipse took before sunset at around 18:40, it showed as partial in much of the country with the exception of one portion of the southeasternmost corner as it was not visible,[4] forecast was clear skies in many parts of Senegal, a part of the view of the eclipse was blocked in the west and a part northeast of Dakar due to clouds especially with the low front off the coast of Senegal that was moving northwest

  • 18 March - Football: Diambars' 12 match unbeaten streak went to an end after a loss to Jaraaf 2-1
  • 1 April - US Ouakam defeated Djambars 2-1 and escaped the relegation zone
  • 2 April - Football: Ndiambour lost to Linguère 2-1 and put inside the relegation zone
  • 7 May - Génération Foot of Sangalkam reached the 40th point with an eight-point difference over second placed Casa Sport
  • 25 June - Gènèration Foot won their only championship title for Senegalese football, overall it was their second honour

  • 25 April – Issa Samb, painter, sculptor, performance artist, playwright and poet (b. 1945).[5]
