2010 Japan–South Korea cyberwarfare

On March 1, 2010, a group of Japanese 2chan and Korean website NAVER's 'Terror Action Association' which was made up DC Inside, Todayhumor netizens engaged in a civil cyberwar. The day was South Korea's March 1st Movement Anniversary, and the 100th anniversary of the Japan–Korea Treaty of 1910.

Description

~ 2010. 2. 23. About a Korean international student was killed in Russia in the winter of 2009, (2chan) made online comments such as "Dog died, Why did the news show it up?" or "Kill more!". After Yuna Kim won the gold medal in figure skating, the group 2chan asserted that a referee must have been bribed, and posts on the website of DC Inside insinuated a plot.

2010. 2. 24. About 12,000 people organized community, Terror Action Association(TAA) in Korea. Sensing the organization of the community, 2chan launched a small attack at DC Inside, but this attack failed in seconds.

2010. 2. 25. 2chan's spy loosed TAA's plot of attack at March 1st, TAA launched visitor inspection program.

2010. 2. 26. ~ 2. 28. TAA has recruited Japanese speakers to translate 2chan's internal instructions of attack. TAA has found out all the programs and attacks used by 2chan. 2chan had known about this fact, but most of 2chan's attackers did not know that March 1 was a Korean holiday.

Result

(Damage) Korea DC Inside, Naver, VANK, Tistory : Temporary Server Slowdown.(VANK damaged its router by Japanese Attacks) Afterwards, blocked Japanese IP.

Japan 2chan, futaba channel : All servers were broke down, became non-funtionable. March 3rd, Japan finally declared surrender and defeat.
