The 2008 CSL season was the 11th season in Italia Shooters existence. The club's season began on May 19, 2008 in a home game against Serbian White Eagles, which resulted in a 2-2 tie. The club's first goal of the season was scored by Luca Forno and Franco Ruschetto on May 19, 2008 in a 2-2 draw against Serbian White Eagles. The season concluded with the Shooters winning their second International Division title.[1] The shooters reached the playoffs and were victorious over the Brampton Lions in the quarterfinals.[2] But were defeated by eventual champions Serbian White Eagles in the semi-final match.[3]

Summary

Significant changes were introduced for the 2008 season as the Shooters secured a permanent home venue at St. Joan of Arc Turf Field in Maple, Vaughan, and recruited the services of Vito Colanglo as general manager.[4][5]A joint venture player agreement was reached with the Toronto Lynx of the USL Premier Development League, which allowed Vaughan access to sign Toronto's senior PDL players.[6]Another significant change introduced by the league was the creation of a Reserve division with Italia Shooters among the original five members. In their debut season the reserve team won the division title.[7][8]

In preparation for the 2008 season team owner Tony De Thomasis relinquished his managerial responsibilities to York Lions head coach Carmine Isacco, who previously managed the Shooters in 2006. The return of Isacco witnessed a major change in the roster with fewer veterans from the previous seasons returning. The selection of the squad was primarily influenced by a influx of Isacco's York University players with the addition of several Toronto Lynx PDL players.

Italia had a successful start to the season with a five game undefeated streak.[9]Throughout the season Italia battled with the Serbian White Eagles for the International division with only a slight stumble with a franchise record of a three game losing streak.[10] Isacco managed to produce a successful season by claiming the club's second division title, and finishing the season with the highest scoring record. In the preliminary round of the postseason the Shooters defeated the Brampton Lions, but were eliminated from the competition in the following round to the Serbian White Eagles.
