The 1977 US Open – Men's Singles event was one of the competitions of the 1977 US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament. It consisted of a draw of 128 players of which 16 were seeded. Fourth-seeded Guillermo Vilas defeated defending champion Jimmy Connors 2–6, 6–3, 7–6^(7–4), 6–0 in the final, played on September 11, 1977 on outdoor clay courts at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, to win his first US Open singles title. First-seeded Björn Borg retired from his fourth-round match due to a shoulder injury.^[1]

The format of the competition was best-of-three sets in the first four rounds followed by best-of-five sets from the quarterfinal onward.
