  • January 25 – In Washington, DC, the National Association of Broadcasters reacts to the payola scandal by threatening fines for any disc jockeys who accepted money for playing particular records.
  • February 8 – Congressional investigations begin into payola in the radio and record industries.
  • February 29 – The radio program At Your Service debuted on St. Louis radio station KMOX. The program is believed to be first locally produced radio talk show, that helped launch the talk radio format in the US. [1]

Sometime during the year, KFMA (1580 AM) of Davenport, Iowa switches call letters to KWNT. By now, the format is full-time country music, the only station in the Quad-Cities market to devote exclusively to country music.
