Football career

Born in Lleida, Catalonia, Rubio spent most of his career in his native region, representing UE Tàrrega, UE Lleida, Gimnàstic de Tarragona[1] and Elche CF.[2] During that spell he competed five seasons in Segunda División, the exception being 2006–07 in Segunda División B, with the second club.

In summer 2010, aged 26, Rubio moved abroad and joined FC Dinamo Bucureşti in Liga I, being released at the end of the campaign by the Romanian team and returning to his country with Deportivo Alavés (third level).[3] In his second year he contributed with 41 games – playoffs included – as the Basques returned to the second tier after a four-year absence.[4]
