1952 to 1956
During these 4 mild bush seasons the F.C.T. averaged 11 minor fires per season.[1]
There were 14 fires during the 1952-53 Fire Season, the largest being the east slope of Black Mountain on the 3 March 1953 (85 acres). During the 1953-54 Fire Season there were 2 larges bush fires Mt Bimberi on the 16 December 1953 (1,000 acres) and Angle Crossing on the 27 December 1953 (700 acres). The 1954-55 Fire Season saw 9 fires attended by Bush Fire Council units, the largest from a lightning strike at Shannon's Falls Creek on 26 December 1954 (2,500 acres). The 1955-56 Fire Season had only 4 fires attended by Bush Fire Council units in the A.C.T. with a total area of 3 acres burnt.[2]
