First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 닑다 (Yale: nilkta).

Also attested in the Iryun haengsildo (二倫行實圖 / 이륜행실도), 1518 (Oksan Seowon ed.), as Middle Korean 니르다 (Yale: niluta).
