First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 아ᄅᆞᆷ답다 (alomtapta). Cognate with 아리땁다 (arittapda). Compare 예쁘다 (yeppeuda), 어여쁘다 (eoyeoppeuda).
