Etymology

First attested in the Bak Tongsa eonhae (朴通事諺解 / 박통사언해), 1677, as Middle Korean 비듬 (pitum). Possibly from 빗다 (pis-, to comb) + (-m, nominalisation suffix). Compare also (bit, comb), 비늘 (bineul, scale).
