Etymology
First attested in the Bak Tongsa eonhae (朴通事諺解 / 박통사언해), 1677, as Middle Korean 비듬 (pitum). Possibly from 빗다 (pis-, “to comb”) + —ㅁ (-m, “nominalisation suffix”). Compare also 빗 (bit, “comb”), 비늘 (bineul, “scale”).
