From 가슴 (gaseum, “breast”) + 뼈 (ppyeo, “bone”). First attested in the Magyeong heonjip (磨鏡軒集 / 마경헌집), 1635, as Middle Korean 가ᄉᆞᆷᄲᅧ (kasom.spye).
