歯磨剤 (shinjitai kanji, kyūjitai kanji 齒磨劑, hiragana しまざい, rōmaji shimazai)

1. a dentifrice; toothpaste or other substance used, usually with a toothbrush, to clean teeth
   • 1986, Yasuhiko Tsuchitani, Ha no byoki [Disease of the teeth], page 104:

     現在市販 (げんざいしはん)されている歯磨剤 (しまざい)は、ペースト状 (じょう)の練 (ね)り歯磨 (はみが)きといわれるもので、その成 (せい)分 (ぶん)は、（1）基剤 (きざい)、（2）保湿剤 (ほしつざい)、（3）結合剤 (けつごうざい)（粘結剤 (ねんけつざい)）、（4）発泡剤 (はっぽうざい)、（5）甘味剤 (あまみざい)、（6）香 (こう)料 (りょう)、（7）特殊成分 (とくしゅせいぶん)（有 (ゆう)効 (こう)成 (せい)分 (ぶん)）などです。

     Genzai shihan sareteiru shimazai wa, pēsutojō no nerihamigaki to iwareru mono de, sono seibun wa, (1) kizai, (2) hoshitsuzai, (3) ketsugōzai (nenketsuzai), (4) happōzai, (5) amamizai, (6) kōryō, (7) tokushu seibun (yūkō seibun) nado desu.

     The most common dentifrice on the market is so-called paste-type toothpaste, the ingredients of which are (1) base, (2) moisturizer, (3) binding agents (binder), (4) foaming agent, (5) sweeteners, (6) flavoring, (7) special ingredients (active ingredients), etc.
