  1. quyi; a category of traditional, usually non-staged, Chinese vocal art forms such as ballad singing (唱曲, chàngqǔ), storytelling (說書说书 (shuōshū)), comic dialogues (小品 (xiǎopǐn)), clapper talk (快板 (kuàibǎn)), and crosstalk (相聲相声 (xiàngsheng))

Usage notes

The term 曲藝/曲艺 acquired wide usage only after 1949. It is nearly synonymous with the earlier term 說唱说唱 (shuōchàng).
