Etymology

From Literary Chinese 臺與 (OC *dɯː laʔ).

The original pronunciation remains uncertain; however due to possibly a naming taboo in ancient China, a variant (shinjitai ) is also attested in the historical record, therefore the name can also be read as Iyo.
