キセノン

Japanese

Chemical element
Xe Previous: ヨウ () (yōso) (I)
Next: セシウム (seshiumu) (Cs)

Etymology

Sound shift from older クセノン (kusenon), itself a borrowing from German Xenon.[1]

Listed in some references[2][3][4] as a borrowing from English xenon. An English derivation would have been borrowed with the initial xe- rendered as (ze) or (ji), whereas クセ (kuse) and キセ (kise) instead point to Dutch or German as the source language.

Pronunciation

  • (Tokyo) ノン [kìséꜜnòǹ] (Nakadaka – [2])[2][4]
  • IPA(key): [kʲi̥se̞nõ̞ɴ]

Noun

キセノン (rōmaji kisenon)

  1. xenon, Xe
