Usage notes
- Attaches to the continuative form of a verb. The contraction rules for ~て apply.
- This is the formally correct verb conjugation, but in conversation and casual writing the い is dropped and てる is used instead.
- In formal writing, ~ており (from おる) is often used for 連用中止, though ~てい can be found in some older works.[1]
