Usage notes

Attaches to the continuative form of a verb. The contraction rules for ～て apply.
This is the formally correct verb conjugation, but in conversation and casual writing the い is dropped and てる is used instead.
In formal writing, ～ており (from おる) is often used for 連用中止, though ～てい can be found in some older works.[1]
