ῥέμβω

Ancient Greek

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *wrembh-, from *werbh- (to turn, twist, bend), from *wer-. Compare Middle Low German wrimpen and Lithuanian reñgtis, Old English weorpan (to throw away). More at versus. Beekes argues for a Pre-Greek origin.
