ῥάβδος

See also: ράβδος

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Origin unclear. Perhaps from a Proto-Indo-European *urb, with cognates such as Lithuanian virbas, Old Church Slavonic врьба (vrĭba) (Russian верба (verba)) and Latin verbēnae. Beekes argues for a Pre-Greek origin.
