წვერი

Georgian

Etymology

From Old Georgian წუერი (c̣ueri), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *c̣wer-. Further origin is uncertain, but see Old Georgian for more.

Cognate with Mingrelian წვანჯი (c̣vanǯi), წვანდი (c̣vandi). Compare also Svan უ̂ა̈რე, უ̂ერე (ûäre, ûere, beard) which may be from the same source (in which case the term can be reconstructed for Proto-Kartvelian).
