ძარღვი

Georgian

Etymology

From Old Georgian ძარღუ (ʒarɣu), ძარღჳ (ʒarɣwi), from Proto-Kartvelian *ʒ₁arɣw-. Cognate with Mingrelian ჯერღვი (ǯerɣvi) and Svan ჯა̈რღუ̂ (ǯärɣû), although the latter might be a Mingrelian borrowing (in which case, the word can only be reconstructed for the Proto-Georgian-Zan stage).
