აგური

Georgian

Alternative forms

  • ანგური (anguri)[1]

Etymology

From Old Georgian აგური (aguri), ultimately from Akkadian 𒅇𒆪𒊒𒌝 (Ù.KU.RU.UM /agurru, ukurru/)[2][3], the immediate source of borrowing probably being Persian آﮔور (āgūr, burned brick)[4][5] (or its Middle Persian antecedent).

For the development of the sense “diamonds” compare Armenian ագուռ (aguṙ, brick; diamonds), քյարփինջ (kʿyarpʿinǰ, brick; diamonds).
