Etymology
From Sanskrit सिंह (siṃha, “lion”); probably via Old Khmer siṅha, siṅ, śiṅha, śīṅha (“lion; Leo”). Cognate with Modern Khmer សិង្ហ (sənghɑɑ), Lao ສິງ (sing). Compare Pali sīha, from which Thai สีหะ was derived.
