Etymology

Uncertain. Per suggestion of Duke Anumanratchathon (Yong Sathiankoset),[1] probably from Old Khmer sapparusa, °sapparasa, sapparassa (“good man; moral man; wise man; worthy man; etc”), which were hybrids of Pali sappurisa (“righteous man; true man; etc”) and Sanskrit सत्पुरुष (satpuruṣa, “good man; wise man; etc”) and correspond to Modern Khmer សប្បុរស (sâbbŏrsâ).
