Borrowed from Sanskrit सम्पूरण (sampūraṇa, literally filling the stomach); perhaps via Old Khmer saṃpūrṇa, saṃpūrṇna, saṃmpūrṇna, sampūra, saṃpūṇna, saṃpur (complete, full; abundant, plentiful; etc); equal to Thai สม (sǒm) + บูรณ์. Cognate with Modern Khmer សម្បូណ៌, សម្បូរ (sɑmbou).
