From Old Marathi सोडणे (soḍaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀙𑁄𑀟𑁂𑀇 (choḍei), from Sanskrit क्षोटयति (kṣoṭayati). Cognate to Hindi छोड़ना (choṛnā).
