Borrowed from Persian شربت (šarbat), from Arabic شُرْبَة (šurba). Compare Gujarati શરબત (śarbat), Hindi शर्बत (śarbat), Punjabi ਸ਼ਰਬਤ (sharbat), Doteli शर्वत (śarwata), Maithili शर्वत, Bengali শরবত (śôrôbôt), Assamese চৰ্বত (sorbot).
