व्रीहि

Sanskrit

Etymology

Either a borrowing from a Dravidian language (compare Proto-Dravidian *wariñci (rice)) or, according to Witzel, borrowed from an unknown South Asian, possibly Austroasiatic, source, with the Dravidian word being an independent borrowing of another variant.[1]
