यूष

Sanskrit

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *yuHṣás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yuHšás, from Proto-Indo-European *yuHs-ós, from *yuHs- (soup, broth). Cognate with Latin iūs (gravy, broth, sauce), Russian уха (uxa, fish soup), Proto-Germanic *justaz (cheese) (whence Old Norse ostr). Compare also Finnish juusto, a Germanic borrowing.
