From Proto-Indo-Iranian *(H)pušyáti, from Proto-Indo-European *(h₃)pus-yé-ti, from *(h₃)pews-.[1] Cognate with Old Church Slavonic пухати (puxati, to blow), Latin pustula (bubble).
