From Proto-Indo-Aryan *panćaHśát, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pančaHĉát, from Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷeh₁ḱomt (“five-ten”). Cognate with Ancient Greek πεντήκοντα (pentḗkonta), Latin quīnquāgintā.
