From Old Marathi 𑘕𑘰𑘽𑘤𑘳𑘯 (jāṁbuḷa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀁𑀩𑀼𑀮 (jaṃbula), from Sanskrit जम्बुल (jambula), alternative form of जम्बु (jambu) whence जांब (jāmb).
