From Old Marathi गाढव (gāḍhava), गाढौ (gāḍhau), गाढोऊ (gāḍhoū), गाढउ (gāḍhau), गाडौ (gāḍau), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀕𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀳 (gaḍḍaha), 𑀕𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀳 (gaddaha), from Sanskrit गर्दभ (gardabha). Cognate to Konkani गाढू and Awadhi गदहा (gadhā).
