From Old Marathi 𑘎𑘯𑘜𑘹𑘽 (kaḷaṇeṁ), from Sanskrit कलयति (kaláyati, “counts, thinks”). Compare Oriya କଳିବା (kôḷiba, “to count, calculate”).
