From Ancient Greek γέεννα (géenna) with the addition of the "h" from Hebrew גֵּיהִנֹּם (gêhinnōm), from גֵּיא הִנֹּם (gêʾ Hinnōm, valley of Hinnom). Compare Arabic جَهَنَّم (ǧahannam).
