Derived from the passive participle of عَطَّلَ (ʿaṭṭala, to neglect, to leave idle, to damage), from the root ع ط ل (ʿ-ṭ-l).

مُعَطَّل (muʿaṭṭal) (feminine مُعَطَّلَة (muʿaṭṭala), masculine plural مُعَطَّلُون (muʿaṭṭalūn), feminine plural مُعَطَّلَات (muʿaṭṭalāt))
