From the root ق ر ي (q-r-y). Cognate with Hebrew קִרְיָה (kiryá), Classical Syriac ܩܪܝܬܐ (qeryaṯā), Ugaritic 𐎖𐎗𐎊𐎚 (qryt), Phoenician 𐤒𐤀𐤓𐤕 (, qʾrt, city).

    هٰؤُلَاءِ الْفَلَّاحُونَ هُم مِنْ تِلْكَ الْقَرْيَةِ الْمِصْرِيَّةِ الْكَبِيرَةِ.
    hāʾulāʾi l-fallāḥūna hum min tilka l-qaryati l-miṣriyyati l-kabīrati.
    These farmers are from that big Egyptian village.
