Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܣܓܶܕ (sg̱ed, to arrange, to lay out), having developed further in Arabic in a root س ج د (s-j-d).

سَجَدَ (sajada) I, non-past يَسْجُدُ‎ (yasjudu)

  1. to prostrate oneself, to bow down
    Synonyms: خَرَّ (ḵarra), رَكَعَ (rakaʿa)
