Etymology

From the root ح ظ و (ḥ-ẓ-w). Per Wehr, also from the root ح ظ ي (ḥ-ẓ-y).

Verb

حَظِيَ (ḥaẓiya) I, non-past يَحْظَى‎ (yaḥẓā)

  1. to enjoy, to be in the good graces of (عندـ)
  2. to acquire, obtain, attain (بِـ (bi-))
    لَا أَظُنُّ أَن مِن اَلْعَدْل أَن يَحْظَى بَعْض اَلنَّاس بِأَشْيَاء رَائِعَة وَجَدِيدَة بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ لَا.
    lā ʾaẓunnu ʾan min al-ʿadl ʾan yaḥẓā baʿḍ an-nās bi-ʾašyāʾ rāʾiʿa wa-jadīda baynamā naḥnu lā.
    I don't think it's fair that some people have wonderful and new things while we don't.
