Not from the root ح ر ش (ḥ r š) related to “scratching” and “instigating” but from Ge'ez ሐሪሥ (ḥäriś, rhinoceros). Doublet of حُرْش (ḥurš, forest), see Hebrew חֹרֶשׁ (ḥóreš, grove, thicket) why.
