Usage notes
  • Today, المغرب is understood by default to refer to the country. The larger region may be specified as اَلْمَغْرِب اَلْأَكْبَر‎ (al-maḡrib al-ʾakbar), or اَلْمَغْرِب اَلْعَرَبِيّ‎ (al-maḡrib al-ʿarabiyy) or اَلْمَغْرِب اَلْإسْلامِيّ‎ (al-maḡrib al-ʾislāmiyy). The core of this region is Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, but unlike English Maghreb it may include all Arabic-speaking countries in Africa.
