Verb

أَقْلَعَ (ʾaqlaʿa) IV, non-past يُقْلِعُ‎ (yuqliʿu)

  1. to take off, to head out, to set sail
  2. to forgo, to relinquish, to refrain from [+ عَن (object)]
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 11:44:
      وَقِيلَ يَا أَرْضُ ٱبْلَعِي مَاءَكِ وَيَا سَمَاءُ أَقْلِعِي
      waqīla yā ʾarḍu blaʿī māʾaki wayā samāʾu ʾaqliʿī
      And it was said: “O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold [your rain]."
