Borrowed from Aramaic אַרְזָא /‎ ܐܪܙܐ (ʾarzā, cedar), from Akkadian 𒄑𒂞 (GIŠERIN /erēnu/), from Sumerian 𒄑𒂞 (GIŠERIN /eren/). Cognate with Hebrew אֶרֶז (ʾérez, cedar) and Ugaritic 𐎀𐎗𐎇 (ảrz, cedar).
