From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾkʾs /āgāh/, aware, knowing), ultimately a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *kʷeḱ- (to see; to look). Cognate with Old Armenian ակահ (akah), an Iranian borrowing.
