Etymology

From Proto-Semitic *śapat- (lip). Compare also Akkadian 𒅻 (šaptu), Classical Syriac ܣܶܦ݂ܬ݁ܳܐ (sep̄ṯā), Ugaritic 𐎌𐎔𐎚 (špt) and Arabic شَفَة (šafa).
