Verb

שוכנע \ שֻׁכְנַע (shukhná) (pu'al construction)

  1. To be convinced or persuaded (by someone or something); passive of שכנע (shikhnéa)
    לאחר ויכוחים רבים, שוכנע חברי לבוא אתי לקולנוע.
    l'akhar vikukhim rabim, shukhna khaveri lavo iti lakolnoa.
    After many arguments, my friend was convinced to come with me to the movies.

Usage notes

  • This verb, which is strictly passive, emphasizes the existence of a person or thing doing the convincing. The related verb הִשְׁתַּכְנֵעַ (hishtakhnéa, become convinced) does not.
