From the root צ־ו־ה‎ . Related through metathesis to Arabic وَصَّى‎ (waṣṣā, “to enjoin”).

   • Deuteronomy 6:6

     ‏וְהָיוּ הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם עַל לְבָבֶךָ׃‎‎

     And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart;

   • Deuteronomy 18:18

     ‏נָבִיא אָקִים לָהֶם מִקֶּרֶב אֲחֵיהֶם כָּמוֹךָ וְנָתַתִּי דְבָרַי בְּפִיו וְדִבֶּר אֲלֵיהֶם אֵת כָּל אֲשֶׁר אֲצַוֶּנּוּ׃‎‎
