מַגֵּפָה (magefá) f (plural indefinite מַגֵּפוֹת)

  1. A plague, an epidemic: an infectious disease, especially a deadly one, affecting many individuals in a population.
    • Exodus 9:14:
      כִּי בַּפַּעַם הַזֹּאת אֲנִי שֹׁלֵחַ אֶת-כָּל-מַגֵּפֹתַי אֶל-לִבְּךָ וּבַעֲבָדֶיךָ וּבְעַמֶּךָ בַּעֲבוּר תֵּדַע כִּי אֵין כָּמֹנִי בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ.
      For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that [there is] none like me in all the earth.[1]
