Usage notes

This preposition is somewhat more formal than the synonymous אחרי‎ (akharéi-).
Unlike English after, לאחר cannot introduce a bare clause; rather, the subordinator ש־‎ (she-) must be inserted.
Unlike English after, לאחר cannot stand alone as an adverbial; rather, a construction such as לאחר זאת‎ (l'akhár zot, “after that”) must be used.
